Year 4 have been remembering the soldiers who fought in both world wars and all wars since. They learned about rationing and how eggs were not usually available for baking with. Because of this, bicarbonate of soda and vinegar was used to make cakes rise. The cakes were often sent from the families to the troops in the trenches to cheer them up. We had a go at making a trench cake and sent it around the school for people to try. Yum!
