This week Year 3 will have an unplugged lesson (teaching Computer Science through engaging games). The children will understand how a basic school computer network works. This will involve a switch, cards, string and a server. Pictures to follow!
Year 3 learning this term is all about the WWW and networks. The children will understand the terminology 'computer network' (a group of two or more computers linked together). They will also investigate wired and wireless networks and how and why we have email.

This week Year 3 will continue their E-Safety theme and learn that sharing information is not always a good thing to do. They will watch a PowerPoint called Click Clever-Click Safe. An E-Safety information presentation that teaches the children how to be safe on the Internet. Year 3 will also make an E-Safety flick flack.

Great afternoon with Year 3. We have looked at Facebook and what you can use it for. We had a big discussion as to why people would use Facebook. We have also looked at profiles and what should and should not go in a profile. We finished today with Fast Typer 2, typing practice app.
Last week Year 3 learned about social media. This week we look at social media profiles. Our school has its own Facebook account which the children will look at. They will learn what a profile is and what information should go in your profile. They will then create a paper based profile for our imaginary class Facebook.
Year 3 will begin their unit of E-Safety. Electronic Safety will help the children to learn to use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly. This week the children will have the opportunity to use the Cybercafé web site www.thinkuknow.co.uk/Cybercafé, learning how to navigate around the web site.
For a little bit of downtime this week Year 3 will complete a “Chocolate WebQuest”. The children will use the webquest to organise information gathered from the Internet by selecting and recording the data. This will also allow the children to begin to envelop an understanding of how to use the Internet by linking to a variety of sites.
This week the children had fun making things with 20 sticks. They all came up with their own individual ideas these included a variety of houses, a rainbow, a boat, a heart, a bug hotel and jail! Well done to you all for your hard work.

Today Year 3 were lucky enough to have a session with Hugh Templeton. Hugh is an artist and taught us how to use water colours to create an effective cave painting.

This morning our amazing choir entered 2 choral sections at the Rochdale Music festival. They performed 4 songs altogether and performed beautifully. We are so proud to have a 64 children in our choir showing their enthusiasm for music and singing. Year 3 will continue to work collaboratively with their peers on their Scratch projects. Last week the children were very detailed when creating their Scratch backgrounds, we had treaure chests and even a sponge Bob. Year 3 will also understand the need to debug algorithms in their Scratch work.
This term Year 3 have been studying the topic of the stone age.
We have made some fantastic pots that we were able to sell during enterprise week.
We used clay and water to make the pots and used fossils and things we might find in the woods to create interesting patterns on them.
